Seeing "Old Faithful" is a high point, at Yellowstone. The Park has numerous other geysers (- Yellowstone has more than half the earth's geysers); some are larger, some even have more frequent eruptions.

But Old Faithful is wonderfully reliable, and is in a prime location, right by the wonderful Old Faithful Inn. The Visitor Center is also nearby, with films and ranger-led programs; and short hikes in the area lead to other beautiful "geothermal features".

A few facts about Old Faithful:
  • average interval between eruptions is 91 minutes
  • the time between eruptions has been increasing over the years
  • the boiling water reaches a height from 106 to 184 feet
  • an eruption lasts from 1-1/2 to 5 minutes
  • from 3700 to 8400 gallons of boiling water shoot up
When you're visiting Yellowstone, check the Old Faithful Visitor Center for geyser predictions: you may be able to see another geyser erupt. Meanwhile, for more info about geysers in Yellowstone, see the Total Yellowstone Geyser Page or the Yellowstone National Park site.
