All aboard, for this great little tourist railroad that runs, round-trip, from Williams Arizona to the train depot by the El Tovar Hotel in the Grand Canyon.

Families can ride in coach or First Class train cars; those with kids over twelve can also choose the Dome observation car or the luxury Parlor cars with lounge-type seating. the First Class, Dome and Parlor cars have snacks and drinks.

Wherever you sit, you'll probably meet the sheriff on the lookout for the train robbers, and later see an exciting chase. The sheriff gets his men, but as one of them taunts: "You didn't catch us, we just ran out of train."

Summer travelers may find another option: a shorter round-trip ride that departs from the Grand Canyon depot. (No train robbery, though.) Check the Grand Canyon Railway site for the latest rides, for lodging packages in Williams, and for special seasonal offerings such as the Polar Express train rides, based on the best-selling children's Christmas book.

See photos of the Grand Canyon Railway's Polar Express, which starts in mid-November, and sells out early.
