Canyon de Chelly (pronounced "Shay") is a place of wondrous beauty. Though a National Park, it's in the Navajo Reservation and is home to Navajo families who farm and keep sheep there.
Except for one trail (leading down to the White House cliff dwelling ruin), visitors aren't permitted to hike on their own into the Canyon. You might take a hike with a park ranger, or arrange a tour with a Navajo guide, a good opportunity to learn about the Navajo way of life and point of view.
Canyon de Chelly has a Visitor Center that's open daily all year, as are the North and South Rim Drives, and the White House Trail; keep an eye on the weather, as rain can cause flash flooding in the Canyon.
