New York City is a magnet for visitors at any time of year, and a terrific place to visit with teens or young adult kids. But you needn't wait until your kids are older; even families with toddlers will find plenty of fun things to do.

New York City with Kids

There are so many ways to have fun with kids in New York City:
  • visiting all-star attractions such as the Empire State Building or the great art museums (most of which have special features for families)
  • viewing real-life dinosaur skeletons at the Natural History Museum
  • doing a movie tour, a pizza tour, or a scavenger hunt
  • touring the harbor on The Beast speedboat
  • taking in a Broadway show or a Blue Man Group performance
  • visiting toy stores that are more like entertainment venues than mere places to shop

New York State

The rest of New York State also has much to offer families. The six-million-acre Adirondack Park takes up most of the northern part of the state, and is the largest publicly protected area in the continental US. Lake Placid is a lovely year-round resort town that's famous for hosting the Winter Olympics twice, in 1932 and 1980. Closer to NYC, the Catskills mountains beckon with family-friendly resorts and hotels. Another draw for families is Cooperstown, home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and to a family-friendly historic hotel.
