Thanksgiving in the US is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November: that's Thursday, November 22 in 2012. A number of cities have parades, most famously Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. The long weekend is a major occasion for families to get together, either at home, or away. Thanksgiving also marks the start of the Holiday Season: Christmas decorations go up, and many places stage a tree-lighting or an appearance by Santa.
