Teens can be a picky and tricky age to please, but some resorts that offer kids' programs are making special efforts to keep the family happy once the kids are teenagers.

Simply setting up a teen center, with games and movie screen, seldom does much. Read on for some outstanding efforts to please those teens...

Also: always read visitor's comments about any resort, and when you do, note the dates of the comments carefully. Teens like to meet other teens, and a lot of their satisfaction will reflect how busy/quiet the resort was, for their social scene.

1. Passworld - Club Med feature for teens and tweens

The Club Med brand of all-inclusive resorts has outstanding kids' programs and is making stand-out efforts for teens as well. Several Club Med resorts have Passworld themed place to hang out, with cool activities. And topping all other efforts at resorts, anywhere, for teens: Club Med Punta Cana also has "The Ramp", a teens-only giant skateboard ramp with lounge underneath.

2. Dreams Resorts: "Core Zone" Teen Centers

The Dreams brand of all-inclusive resorts has all-inclusives in Mexico and the DR, with kids club for ages 3 to 12. A new Teen Center program will start at Dreams Punta Cana Resort & Spa, and continue at four new resorts being built in the Caribbean. Teen Centers for ages 13 to 17 will have high-tech games, audio-visual systems, games tables, drink and snack machines, and sports areas such as basketball courts, batting cages, climbing walls, archery range, and more. Supervisors will schedule activities-- flexibly. ·

3. Ritz Carlton Hotels & Resorts

This upscale brand is making a special effort for teens."Our Space" for ages 13 to 19 has "teen concierges"; teen room with laptops, game systems, movie theater, air hockey, etc.; activities from bike hikes to night sports to pizza and movie nights. Some locations have teen-pleasers such as surf lessons. (And for younger kids, there's Ritz Kids Clubs.)
