And more and more hotels and resorts, from luxury to budget, support that attitude -- sometimes with a startling amount of doggie pampering at upscale hotels.
To find places that welcome pets as part of the family, try the Pets Welcome site, which you can search by state.
Dogfriendly.com, meanwhile, is an excellent resource showing not only accommodations but also dog parks and dog-friendly outdoor restaurants.
Other encouraging signs that the world is going to the dogs:
- Certain upscale hotels-- such as Hotel Monaco, and W Hotel-- now make a point of pampering pooches too.
- Disney World -- which has long had kennels-- is elevating its pet lodgings to a "full-service, luxury pet resort". (See Disney World gets Dog Friendlier).
- Petside.com lists scores of hotels that welcome pets. The budget chains alone -- such as Motel6, La Quinta Inns and Suites, Red Roof Inn, Best Western, Candlewood Suites - -add up to hundreds of pet-friendly choices for family travelers.*
