Immerse your family in one of the most exciting periods of US History: 1774, just before the American Revolution. Colonial Williamsburg -- about 150 miles south of Washington DC-- offers over 500 reconstructed buildings, most of them in a 173-acre Historic Area, and has a staff of 3500 archaeologists, researchers, historians, and historical interpreters to make the place literally come to life.

In the streets, you'll see costumed citizens of the period, who may be discussing the politics of the day: England and the King, unfair taxation, slavery... Be sure to engage some of them in conversation.

And if your kids (or you) need a break from History... a Busch Gardens theme park and Waterpark USA are close by.
