No business wants to lose its clientele for six months of the year, so it's no surprise that owners of ski resorts try to think up ways to keep customers coming once the snow's melted.
You may be surprised, however, at just how far a ski resort will go, to be a super-fun place during the summer months.
Take Whistler-Blackcomb, (near Vancouver, BC), which is rated a top ski resort every year. Whistler's become a very population spot in summertime, with mountain biking, alpine hiking, lake, fishing, horse-riding, river-rafting, and kids' camps -- not to mention glacier skiing. The Blackcomb Base Adventure Zone has trapeze, "Kiss the Sky" trampoline (part bungee, part tramp), climbing wall; the Westcoaster Luge (ages for and up), minigolf, and more.
Meanwhile,in Vermont, top family ski resort Smuggler's Notch is equally busy in summer-time, with eight heated pools, four waterslides, splash pools, water playground with water cannons etc., climbing tower, and more. Smuggs is known for its nursery and many kids programs for different age groups, including two teen centers.
At Steamboat, in Colorado, summer activities include horseback riding; the "Howler" 2400-foot alpine slide, for ages 3 and up; ATV tours; carriage rides; guided hiking; Adventure Zone with Climbing Wall, bouncing place, trampoline bungee jump, and more; hot air balloons; rock-climbing; hot springs pool; whitewater rafting; wagon dinner rides -- and that's not all.
And that's not all, folks... About.com's Guide for Adventure Travel highlights summer fun at ski resorts in Colorado, California, Utah, and more.
Bonus: whenever you visit a ski resort in summertime, you're almost certain to find good promotions and packages.
