Spring break skiing

Spring break can be a great time for a ski getaway, especially if warm spring afternoons and less icy conditions make for kinder gentler slopes for families.

  • Utah Ski Spots: Salt Lake City Skiing:
Utah -- just west of Colorado-- has some choice ski spots, including no less than seven very different ski resorts within an hour of Salt Lake City. (And dozens of cities have direct flights to SLC.)
  • Big Bear Lake Skiiing & Snowboarding
Two hours from LA, this family-friendly ski resort has skiing and snowboarding on 75 trails, and snow-tubing with a "moveable" sidewalk up the hill.
  • Colorado Ski Resorts
Colorado is the primo skiing state and "family-friendly" is the motto at many mountains, with kids programs, kids-only terrain, fun extras such as tubing, snow sculptures, fireworks... Colorado even has an all-inclusive snow resort.
  • Club Med Crested Butte: All-inclusive ski resort!
This unique Colorado getaway is North America’s only all-inclusive ski resort: but that’s not the only reason to visit. The (twice-daily) lessons are excellent; kids programs -- on and off the slopes-- are first-class; and Club Med ambiance is the friendliest.
  • Smugglers' Notch
No article could mention both "family" and "skiing" without an nod to Vermont's "Smuggs": where else can you find a million-dollar slope-side child care center with tiny toilets? Smuggs has baby care and kids programs for all ages, two teen centers, and a promise: "the most fun your kids will ever have".
