- Cypress Mountain details

Further details about the Sky Chair at the "top of the top" of Cypress Mountain ski resort:

"There's a certain rustic sense, with skiing up here: most notably, the old lift, which is slow but comes around fast when you get on and has a steel pole in the center, so if you don't stand in the right place, you're in for a headache! And at the same time, it's these things that make it great, almost like going on a rickety old roller coaster. The runs themselves are also a bit neglected and less groomed, and dominated by gladed skiing. If you cower at the thought of a steep moguly run with trees on the sides, this will be your nightmare. However, if you enjoy this, the peak is just the place for you.

Another virtue of the peak area is the view. There is an amazing view of the surrounding islands.

If you don't like gladed skiing, there are some wider runs leading down, but you won't find anything long, free, and easy, like the lower parts of the mountain. If you can ski tough blue runs, can handle lots of muguls, and are adequate at gladed skiing, the peak is a great place to finally conquer some black diamond runs, which are very easy compared to other black runs. The point to remember is, gladed skiing will often cause a ski run to be rated more difficult; so if you can do gladed skiing well, these black runs are really just blue runs with trees. If you're not good at gladed skiing, I'd still recommend going up just for the view."
