The whole family can come on this snow vacation: top-rated Whistler Ski Resort is a surprisingly dog-friendly place.
At Crystal Lodge, for instance, your doggie gets a special blanket (click on photo, right, to view), and is certain to attract plenty of attention from other guests in the lobby, especially from little kids.
What will Fido do while you're on the slopes? Just two minutes away from Crystal Lodge is the Whistler Dog's Paw doggy day care (604-932-4288), a welcoming place with convenient location.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed strolling with Buddy on a snowy evening in the Village.
A few things to keep in mind:
- dogs shouldn't be left alone in the room
- your dog might bark when he/she hears voices outside your hotel room, so be prepared to do some on-the-spot training
- even a hotel lobby is a friendler place with Fido along
Many other hotels at Whistler also welcome dogs, including posh (but family-friendly) places such as the Four Seasons Resort Whistler, which has a complimentary Very Important Pet program that includes a doggie bowl and bed and house-made biscuits.* See a list of dog-friendly accommodations at Whistler; when booking, be sure to ask about fees, as many hotels charge a nightly fee for dogs, perhaps $25 to $50/night. Vacation home rentals are also a popular choice with families and pets may be welcome there as well. Tourism Whistler can help you locate dog-friendly lodgings for your trip.
