Barcelo Maya - background:

Barceló Hotels & Resorts is a giant company, based in Spain, with properties in 16 countries.

Barcelo Maya is a multi-resort complex on the Riviera Maya, south of Cancun, in the Puerto Aventuras area. Location is 40 miles south of the Cancun Airport, 15 miles south of Playa del Carmen, and near the eco-theme park Xcaret - a great outing.

Guests at all four resorts enjoy:
  • a mile of white sand beach
  • natural coral reef, for snorkeling; also shelters the beach area
  • multiple lagoon-style pools
  • kids pool with play area
  • complimentary snorkeling, sunfish sailing, Hobie Cats, paddle boats, minigolf, waterpolo, volleyball
  • dance courses; open-air fitness area; jogging trail
  • nightly entertainment in large amphi-theatre; weekly Mexican folklorico show with dancers, costumes.
  • fishing, waterskiing, windsurfing, free scuba class in pool, on-site PADI dive center
  • horseback riding, at additional charge
  • luxury spa
For kids and families:
  • Barcy Water Park: slides and fountains at the Colonial Geach pool (beside the Bacy kids' club); for kids 4 to 12, accompanied by an adult
  • shallow kids' areas in pools
  • two kids clubs: Barcy Club, at Colonial Beach pool, for ages 4 to 12, day and evening hours*
  • Miniclub Miki Maya, for ages 4 to 12, day-time hours; location between by swimming pool of Caribe Beach
  • kids' playground by the Miniclub Miki Maya
  • game room, teen disco
  • babysitting available
  • Barcelo Maya Beach Resort and Barcelo Maya Caribe Beach:

This pair of resorts has over 1000 rooms including some suites and junior suites. Style is low-rise, with five buildings with courtyards and large lush grounds; all rooms have balconies or terraces. Six restaurants: beach, buffet, and a la carte specialty restaurants.*

    Families will like:

  • two pools, including lagoon-like free form pool
  • childrens' pool area
  • minigolf around a cenote
  • Barcelo Maya Tropical & Colonial Beach:

This newer pair of resorts is adjacent to the Barcelo Maya Caribe and Beach duo, and is more upscale: 5-star, as opposed to 4.

Guests at the Colonial & Tropical resorts share all facilities, and also have full access to the Caribe and Beach resorts; however, guests at the Beach and Caribe resorts can't access all restaurants at the new duo.

Keep in mind about the Barcelo Maya :
    • as is common at all-inclusives, meals at specialty restaurants are limited and reservations required
    • complimentary use of snorkeling gear is limited; if you like snorkeling, bring your own gear
    • pools aren't heated, which is usual at Mexico resorts. (See Tips, Cautions about Mexico Resorts.
    • two more resorts are planned
