Iberostar Playa Paraiso - Background:
Iberostar is a Spanish company with many resorts worldwide, including a major complex at Playa Paraiso in Mexico's Mayan Riviera. Location is 30 minutes south of the Cancun airport, between Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

The Mayan Riviera is a terrific area for family vacations, with many all-inclusives; families can explore Mayan ruins, coral reef, snorkeling lagoons and unique "eco-theme parks" such as Xcaret and Xel-ha. (Also in the area is the Iberostar Tucan.)

Iberostar Playa Paraiso - five resorts

On the white sand beaches of Playa Paraiso ("Paraiso Beach"), Iberostar has two pairs of resorts, plus conference center, shopping center, spa and fitness center, and P.B. Dye golf course. A fifth resort opened in February 2007 and launched Iberostar's Grand Hotel brand of five-star luxury resorts.

The complex has lush tropical setting where kids love to spot birds, iguanas, turtles, even monkeys. A trolley takes guests around the giant property.

One pair of resorts has the Hotel Iberostar Paraiso Beach and the Hotel Iberostar Paraiso del Mar (- see review), with 386 rooms in 2-story buildings; 6 specialty restaurants, many bars; night club, discotheque; imaginative pool area with kids' pool.

The second pair of resorts --the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo and Iberostar Paraiso Maya -- has five shared pools that include a lake-style pool, lazy river, wave pool, kids' pool and activity pool. The top resort, Paraiso Maya, has several exclusive pools and restaurants, and some special amenities; guests at the Paraiso Maya can "dine around" at all the restaurants in the complex.

The adults-only Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso is the fifth resort in the Iberostar Playa Paraiso, opening in 2007 as the first in Iberostar's luxury "Grand Hotel" brand. The Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso has 300 suites, 12 Honeymoon Villa Suites with butler service, four a-la-carte restaurants, three swimming pools, a private spa and concierge services. Guests can access all the facilities of the other four resorts.
