Tanque Verde Ranch: background
This Arizona cattle and dude ranch in the Sonoran desert was founded way back in 1868. The Tanque Verde Ranch has 640 acres in the foothills of the Rincon mountains east of Tucson Arizona; Saguaro National Park is adjacent. Driving time from Tucson airport is about 40 minutes.
Guests stay in 74 rooms and suites with southwestern style, AC, and desert and mountain views; most have fireplaces and patios.
Features of Tanque Verde Ranch
Activities include:
- horseback riding: ride as often as you like, it's all-included. Riding is offered at all skill levels; you can also take Beginner to Intermediate Classes in Horsemanship. 150 horses make up the herd.
- tennis, guided hiking, mountain biking, nature walks are also all-included in nightly rate
- supervised kids' program for ages 4 to 11 has horseback riding lessons and much more-- see below
- breakfast rides (breakfast on the hoof) and BBQ's under the stars are a highlight
- indoor and outdoor pool
- Nature Center, with spiders, snakes, beetles
- weekly classes in landscape painting, mixed media pottery
- is divided into two age groups, 4-6 year olds (Buckaroos) and 7-11 year olds (Wrangler Kids). The program is active in style, including riding, tennis, swimming, hiking nature programs, games, arts and crafts.
Kids will also like the chance to see critters in real-life: skunks, scorpions, and yes, maybe even a rattler.
