Just before you make your final ascent up the last of 386 steps to the bell-tower, you can visit these charming characters.
The last steps are wooden, not stone, and lead to a bell-tower nearly filled by a huge bronze bell; and if you can't picture Quasimodo madly ringing the bell, then your imagination needs some therapy.
The gargoyles are actually late additions to Notre-Dame, dating from the 19th century, and deplored by some as a misbegotten addition to the Cathedral. However, they're guaranteed to be a hit, when you visit with kids!
