What and where is WinterCity?:
WinterCity Festival is a 14-day city-wide celebration in Toronto, from January 28 to Feb. 10, 2005, with both indoor and outdoor fun. All events are family-friendly and many are free. The biggest shows are presented at Nathan Phillips Square (in downtown Toronto), and all are free.
Toronto is in the Canadian province of Ontario, a 1-1/2-hour flight from NYC.
What's special about WinterCity for families:
- Families went wild last year for The Wild on Winter show: expect acrobatics plus pyrotechnics.
- kids will like the outdoor activities too, such as skating at at Nathan Phillips Square, and outdoor barbeques with live music.
- the WinterCity Passport gives discounts to 40 attractions including the Casa Loma "castle", Ontario Science Centre (interactive and geared to kids), and Toronto Zoo. Many have family-style programs; also there'll be appearances by tv characters such as Dora the Explorer.
Other features:
Winterlicious provides a special prix fixe menu at 120 of Toronto's finest restaurants: sample a 3-course lunch for $10 or $20, or dinner for $20 or $30. And that's Canadian dollars. (Beverages not included, though.)
WinterCity hotel packages:
Visitors can book with the official WinterCity hotel partner, the Toronto Marriott Eaton Centre. (The giant Eaton Center indoor mall is hosting WinterCity Warm Up, with acrobat shows, cooking demos, etcn.) The hotel has a package including a prix-fixe dinner and breakfast for two.
