Winter, spring, summer, and fall: this region has so much to offer families. Find great places in NYC with kids; family resorts with extensive kids' programs, in New York state, Vermont, and more; family-friendly classic hotels; Hershey PA; resorts with indoor waterpark...

1. New England

New England offers great opportunities for outdoor recreation, and a couple of theme parks too, open in summer and with major scary fun at Halloween. Several family resorts go all out with kids programs, family activities, and weekend celebration packages at Thanksgiving and other holidays.

2. New York State

Lake George, the Catskills... New York State has several areas popular for family vacations, and also, some excellent family-friendly resorts, from classic properties on huge grounds, to all-inclusive guest ranch, to resorts with indoor waterparks. And of course New York City is terrific to visit with kids.

3. Pennsylvania

Many spots in PA are an easy drive from NYC and Washington DC. Top draws include a major theme park, classic lodges, huge recreational properties, a resort with indoor waterpark.
