New England is jammed with opportunities for families to have fun and memorable getaways. There are wonderful options all year long, from skiing and snowy vacations in the winter to summer fun to foliage season in the fall.

1. VT: Tyler Place Family Resort

Set on Lake Champlain 45 minutes from Burlington, this all-inclusive summer family resort has what's arguably the best children's program in the country. It has 165 sprawling acres, with adorable cottages and a country inn, many waterfront activities and exceptional kids' programming for many different age groups including babies and toddlers. Open from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend.

2. Great Wolf Lodge New England - Opening Spring 2014

The wildly popular Great Wolf Lodge chain of indoor water park resorts is set to open its first New England property in the Boston area in June 2014. At 68,000 square feet, the indoor water park at Great Wolf Lodge New England will be the largest in Massachusetts.

The AMC serves over 150,000 guests a year and has lodges, huts, camps, and campgrounds in New Hampshire and Maine, where it offers activities year-round including winter skiing and snowshoeing. The AMC encourages families to enjoy the Great Outdoors and has many programs and reduced rates for kids and teens. Highland Center Lodge, in New Hampshire, is especially good for family programs and has a seasonal kids club.An L.L. Bean gear room provides free "loaner" hiking boots, fleece jackets, etc., including kid-sized and toddler-sized gear.

5. NH: Omni Mount Washington Hotel at Bretton Woods

This National Historic Landmark has indoor and outdoor pools, golf, tennis, horseback riding, mountain biking, kids camp, family programs such as rock-climbing. In winter, kids can join the ski school at Bretton Woods.

"Smuggs" -- near Burlington-- is open winter, summer, fall, and has extensive kids programs, two teen centers, A 5400 sq. ft.child care centre for babies, indoor FunZone, and dozens of activities.

9. Moose Tours

From end of May to early October is your chance to see the largest members of the deer family (and they are really big: an average moose's height at shoulders is 6.5 to 7.5 feet.) Check out several tours, in NH and Maine; spotting an animal in the wild can never be guaranteed, but some tours have a 97.3% success rate in finding moose.
