Summer camps for kids are of course a tradition in the northeast; but whole families can get in on the action too.
A number of "inter-generational" or "Family Camps" open their gates to the whole clan. Typically, they offer beautiful settings, simple lodgings, meals included (probably in a dining hall), and many outdoors and other activities.
In addition, some kids' camps have special weeks during which they welcome whole families.
