Acadia National Park ME

About's guide for US / Canada Parks has the scoop on this much-loved park, that has nearly 48,000 acres of "granite-domed mountains, woodlands, lakes and ponds, and ocean shoreline" on the coast of Maine. See a complete vacation planner, including history, lodging and Things to Do.

Summer highlights include driving the 27-mile Park Loop Road; hiking, biking, or horseriding on 45 miles of carriage roads; 115 miles of hiking trails; trolley tours; National Park Tours; exploring tide pools; ranger-led programs such as bird walks, boat cruises, stargazing; swimming (two life-guarded beaches) ; fishing, kayaking; and more. Various commercial vessels offer ferry service, nature cruises, sailing, and whale watching outings.

Some families might want to visit Acadia National Park in a "family adventure" group: the Sierra Club often has family trips here, and several tours run private companies also include a day or more at this Park. (read more about "family adventures".)
