Scholastic is a book publisher rather than a toy-seller, but never mind, those boundaries blurred long ago; and The Scholastic Store has plenty of books, toys, and more for sale.
Location of the "Scholastic Store in Soho" is at 557 Broadway (between Prince and Spring Streets). When we visited, the store had colorful displays for popular kids' books, like Clifford The Big Red Dog, Harry Potter, Captain Underpants, The Magic School Bus gang... Expect these celeb book characters to change over time-- but you get the idea.
Kids will also find puzzles, videos, games, and -- a personal fave, and great for backseat travelers-- "interactive" books from KLUTZ.
The store also offers "hands-on" activities. An Activity Loft has crafts and organized activities, and is also available for themed birthday parties (royal princess, dino dig, etc.) Visitors will also find thousands of learning products, organized by subject (Math, Music, Geography....) and a demo area to test toys and games.
Also part of the picture are free Saturday events such as author readings, character visits and story-telling.*
