Build a Bear Workshop is an outstanding example of a fun experience combined with unique shopping in a store: kids and parents have great fun creating their very own customized furry friend.
The first Build-A-Bear Workshop store opened in Saint Louis in 1997: kids (of any age) enter a totally themed environment to make their own teddy bear or other stuffed animal.
The process has several distinct steps at different "stations" (Name Me, Dress Me... "Heart Stuff™" is a special step.)
The concept proved wildly popular. Parents may be glad to know that costs for creating a furry pal can be modest; but of course the cute costumes can run up the bills.
Build a Bear Workshop has some 200 locations worldwide; and it's no surprise that the New York City store is a special one, with 21,500 sq. feet on 5th Avenue at 46th-- a great location, and the biggest Build-A-Bear Workshop in the world.
All the best furry friends are here, and you'll find special sections on "New York City Stuff" (great for souvenirs), "Fureign Friend" outfits from many cultures, and "local hero" outfits (- bear-sized FDNY and NYPD uniforms.)*
The "Eat With Your Bear Hands Cafe" can be booked for Build-A-Party "cele-bear-ations" (But no longer operates as a restaurant.)
Check the New York City store site for packages at NYC hotels. For example, Hilton Hotels in New York City may offer a Pawsitively Fun Package that includes a Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Bunk Trunk® filled with items; the trunk folds out and serves as a bed for a child's bear, as well.
