If the name "Trapp Family" doesn't ring a bell, then you haven't watched the Sound Of Music often enough. This 2700-acre resort amid beautiful scenery near Stowe, Vermont is run by the same Trapp family that was the real-life basis for this film. The resort has rooms, suites, and Guest Houses, and-- guess what-- Austrian decor and atmosphere.

Location is near the quaint town of Stowe VT (restaurants, shopping.) The Main Lodge has 96 guestrooms with views of the Green Mountains, and Sun Room, Family Room, Library and Living Rooms, some with fireplaces.

Room rates range from $198 to &750/night and include indoor and outdoor pools (in season), cross-country ski passes, clay tennis courts, afternoon tea and cookies, daily feature films, nightly musical entertainment. Price during holidays include 5-course dinner and country breakfast for two adults; there's a daily meal charge per child aged 12 and under. (Check web site for price updates.)

What's to do at the Trapp Family Lodge:

The Trapp Family Lodge is open year-round, and activities include: cross-country skiing and hiking on 100km of trails, guided nature walks, mountain biking, tennis, croquet, snowshoeing, sleighrides, maple sugaring, music lessons, swimming, and more. The Trapp was the first cross-country ski center in the US, started back in 1968.

Kids Programs:

Mountain Kids Club has activities in all seasons. For ex.: Summer Adventure Camp (ages 3 to 16) might include music, dance, animal tracking, fort building; canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, horseback riding. Price ranges from $15 for small-kid sessions to $50 for day-long outings for older kids. (Check site for updates). The Trapp Family Lodge has family programs, too.
