Trapp Family Lodge - Background:
If the name "Trapp Family" doesn't ring a bell, then you haven't watched the Sound Of Music often enough. This 2500-acre resort amid beautiful scenery near Stowe, Vermont is run by the same Trapp family that was the real-life basis for this film. The resort has rooms, suites, and Guest Houses, and-- guess what-- Austrian decor and atmosphere.
Location is near the quaint town of Stowe VT, where restaurants and shopping are available. The Main Lodge has guestrooms, and guest houses with fully stocked kitchens. Great views!
Activities at the Trapp Family Lodge:
The Trapp Family Lodge is open year-round, and activities include: cross-country skiing and hiking on 100km of trails, guided nature walks, mountain biking, tennis, croquet, snowshoeing, sleighrides, maple sugaring, music lessons, swimming, and more. The Trapp was the first cross-country ski center in the US, started back in 1968.
Kids Programs:
Mountain Kids Club has activities in all seasons. For ex.: Summer Adventure Camp might include music, dance, animal tracking, fort building; canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, horseback riding. Different kids programs have different prices: small-kid sessions cost less than day-long outings for older kids -- check the resort site for updates, and to see what programs are offered during the time of your visit. The Trapp Family Lodge has family programs, too.
