Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa is an all-season resort in Stowe, Vermont, with accommodations from guestrooms to townhouses. Stoweflake takes pride in its special spa -- "a rock cave pathway leads you to a water therapy solarium featuring our Bingham Falls Hot Springs"-- but it's also a family place: kids can enjoy indoor and outdoor heated pools (with an adult), stay free in parents' room, and eat in kid-friendly restaurants on-property.
A special family-friendly event is the annual Stoweflake Hot Air Balloon Festival in July. (2008 dates are July 11 - 13.) The Festival has evening and sunrise balloon launches, live entertainment, kids' activities. Admission is $8/day; kids 12 and under are free. Visitors can try a tethered balloon ride for $10 a person.* Real-deal hot-air balloon rides are available too. (Reserve in advance; sample price is $275 per person.)
The Balloon Festival usually has an accompanying package that includes lodging, welcome basket, admission to the event, and daily breakfast.
Stoweflake Mountain Resort has other seasonal packages too: check for Family Fun Packages that might include bike or in-line skate rental; admission to Stowe Golf-in-Miniature; Stoweflake's par-3, 9-hole golf; and an area activity, such as a Mountain Resort Day Pass for a gondola ride and alpine slides.
It does deserve special mention, with: a twelve-foot-high massaging waterfall; Aqua Solarium; oversize windows with spectacular views; Hungarian Mineral Soaking Pool.
