Cancun has dozens of resorts in its 25-km Hotel Zone, and this resort has one of the best locations, with its own private peninsula at the south end of the Zone. Club Med is known for outstanding kids programs, and this resort also has Baby Welcome amenities (including a fully stocked 24/7 feeding room) and a Passworld lounge with supervised programs for teens. This all inclusive resort has a choice location, conveniently within Cancun's Hotel Zone and close to restaurants and shops, yet with ocean on three sides and private beach areas. Dreams Cancun has a kids club for ages 3 to 12, and also has a "Core Zone Club" with teen programs for ages 13 to 17.

This busy all inclusive is just 9 miles from the Cancun airport, on the quieter end of the Hotel Zone. On-site fun includes a waterpark within the kids' club area, multiple pools, and minigolf; watersports include sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking. Guests also get free greens fees at the Cancun Golf Club at Pok-ta-Pok. (You will have to rent a golf cart, though.) This resort has a kids club, a baby club for ages 18 months to three years, and a teen area.

This resort is just ten minutes south of the Cancun airport, in a quiet and isolated location forty minutes from busy Cancun Hotel Zone, and well-placed for day-trips to the Mayan Riviera (which offers a giant stretch of coral reef, snorkeling lagoons, Mayan ruins, and unique eco-theme parks.) The Moon Palace is noteworthy for its giant size, with three different resorts in one, thirteen restaurants, two large sets of interconnected pools, and two Jack Nicklaus Signature Design golf courses. The Moon Palace has a kids club, and families can book special luxury suites with extra amenities and nanny service.

This resort is half an hour soufh of the Cancun airport, about half-way between Cancun and busy Playa del Carmen.; location is near Puerto Morelos, an excellent place to go snorkeling on the Mayan Riviera's long barrier coral reef. This is an all-suites property, from "junior suites" to 3-bedroom units. The resort has a kids club and a cute waterplay area, with a cliff jump, that kids will like.

Azul Hotels are the family brand of the Karisma "gourmet inclusive" resorts. Two Azul hotels -- Azul Beach Hotel and Azul Sensatori -- are near Puerto Morelos, 20 minutes from the Cancun airport; a third, the Azul Fives is near Playa del Carmen further south. All three have good locations for exploring the Mayan Riviera and all have 24-hour room service, beach butler service, and Azulitos kids programs for kids under five, created in partnership with Fisher-Price.

Viva Wyndham is a brand of value resorts with six properties in the Caribbean and Mexico. This resort and sister property the Viva Wyndham Azteca are located near Playa del Carmen; guests at one resort can use the amenities at the other. Feature include a white-sand beach, beachfront pool, nature trails, watersports, and kids clubs for ages 4 to 12 in two age groups.Kids 12 and under stay at the resort for a nominal fee.

This giant complex on the Mayan Riviera has five resorts with lush grounds and white-sand beach; a pool complex with lazy river, a wave pool, and kids' pools; multiple restaurants, a shopping center, spa, and P.B. Dye golf course. One pair of resorts shares a pool area with kids' pool; another pair shares a lake-style pool, lazy river, wave pool, kids' pool and activity pool. Generally guests can "dine around" and play at other resorts, but with limitations; the most upscale resort is exclusive, and its guests have free range everywhere. This resort -- the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso -- has suites and butler service, three pools, a private spa and concierge services.

Tulum is at the southern end of the Mayan Riviera, and is a well-known name because of the unique and scenic Mayan ruins here: this is the only sea-side Mayan archeological site. The Dreams Tulum resort has 23 acres, two miles of beach, colonial-style architecture, a children's pool, beach and pool wait service and 24-hour room service. The kids club has daily programs for 3 to 12-year olds. The Mayan ruins at Tulum are just five minutes away.

Moving over to the west coast, this 31-acre resort is located near Zihuatanejo, about 100 miles north of Acapulco. As noted above, Club Med is known for its excellent kids programs and for its unique ambiance created by the many extroverted G.O.'s who run the kids programs, watersports and other activities. Club Med Ixtapa Pacific has Baby Welcome amenities, and also a Baby Club and Petit Club Med (at an extra charge.)
