In fact, these exhibits are so extensive, you'd need hours to tour with any detail or depth. And-- between the arms, the jewels, and generally walking around exploring-- even the most superficial visit to the Tower will take several hours.
Fortunately, for those with kids who'll get tired out, there are benches to rest on both inside the Tower, and outside its gate. You can sit by the Thames outside, gaze at the Tower Bridge, and buy snacks and ice cream (at least in summer-time).
Re-energized kids will soon clamor to visit the nearby gift shop: a dream-come-true for any child who collects figures of knights in armour.
