Starting in San Diego in 2010, and continuing in a building boom for ten more years, up to twenty new Nick Hotels will offer families mega-fun, with on-site water parks and theming and entertainment by Nickelodeon.
Nick Hotel: Background
The original Nick Hotel in Orlando --Nickelodeon Family Suites by Holiday Inn-- has been hugely popular with families, and no wonder: it has two on-site waterparks, and non-stop games and entertainment by Nickelodeon. Such as:
- character breakfasts with Sponge-Bob, Dora the Explorer and other Nick characters
- poolside games
- getting "pied" (with a cream pie in the face)
- nightly entertainment in special theater Studio Nick, with lots of guest participation
- getting SLIMED
And now Nickelodeon's teamed up with the Marriott International hotel chain, to build twenty more Nick Hotels by the year 2020.
(Nickelodeon is, of course, the hugely popular kids' channel, distributed around the world. And Marriott International is a leading lodging company with multiple brands including Marriott, JW Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton, and more.)
""Nickelodeon Resorts by Marriott"
First up, and due to open in 2010, is a 650-room resort at Liberty Station in San Diego. This property will have a 100,000 square-foot water park and activity deck. Other resorts could be located not only in the US, but also in Caribbean and Mexican resort areas, or in Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East.
Signature features will repeat at each resort:
- state-of-the-art pools and water-play features. In destinations with cooler weather, the fun will move inside to indoor water parks.
- live entertainment and games with Nickelodeon characters such as Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants.
- " Studio Nick," theater space, for live entertainment programs.
Other planned features: full service spa and fitness center, "adults only" lap pool, varied dining options, character breakfasts in the "Nick Toons Cafe", game room, poolside cabanas, and meeting and business space.
Guest rooms will include multi-bedroom suites; "kids' suites" will be themed with popular Nick characters and shows.
The "water park resort" trend has been going strong for several years now, as more and more resorts offer private indoor (or outdoor) water parks for their guests. The combination of water park plus the Nickelodeon brand plus frenetically-fun games and entertainment is sure to be a big winner with families.
