Snowkiting is a new winter sport and as the name suggests, basically people use giant kites to catch windpower and glide across snow or ice, using skis or a snowboard. Snowkiting is related to kiteboarding or kitesurfing, a sport that's perhaps better known, but snowkiting is easier to learn especially on a flat surface like a frozen lake.

These photos give an idea of the beginner snowkiting experience, courtesy of Colorado Kite Force, which offers lessons on Lake Dillon near the Keystone and Breckenridge ski resorts. Could be a fun thing to try on a Colorado vacation!
