Disneyland California - Makeover
The Mouse has roared with some big news this month: Disney's California Adventure is going through some major life changes. For those who don't know: Disney's California Adventure is the number-two theme park at the original Disneyland in Anaheim CA; it joined the classic Magic Kingdom theme park in 2001, but never really dazzled (despite some nice attractions.) About's Guide to Theme Parks gives the background, and also a look forward to what we can expect at Disneyland after a billion dollars gets spent. See: Disney's California Adventure - Makeover. Little Mermaid Ride, anyone?

SpongeBob's Atlantis Squarepantis
Quite a few resorts, these days, have teamed up with tv characters: the Beaches Resorts brand has a partnership with Sesame Street; NickHotel, in Orlando, has characters from the Nickelodeon tv channel; and of course the Disney and Universal Orlando theme parks have a whole roster of celebrity characters.

And now, the legendary Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas has gotten into the act, with none other than Nickelodeon's popular SpongeBob SquarePants.

Families can sign up for a special weekend package in early November, to preview the tv movie "SpongeBob's Atlantis Squarepantis" before it airs November 12th. And while they're there, they can enjoy the resort's 93-acres of waterpark, jaw-dropping waterslides, river ride with special effects, shark lagoons, subterranean giant aquariums, kiddie pools and play zones, kids' camp, teen club -- to name just some of the attractions at this mega-resort. Read more about Family Package and "SpongeBob's Atlantis Squarepantis".

It Just Keeps Getting Bigger
Of course the biggest deal in October for family travelers (and families in general) is Halloween: you have to wonder, how much bigger can Halloween get as an unofficial holiday season? Or put it another way: won't we need to have a public holiday soon, for Halloween? Check out dozens of Halloween Events that make it fun to visit cities, theme parks, country inns, or waterpark resorts, all celebrating ghoulishly.

Now for Something Completely Different...
I've noticed something new at my local yoga class -- kids. If your kids like yoga -- or you think they might-- here's a way to combine it with travel and family time. World Family Yoga has two retreats planned for Costa Rica, in 2008.
