Much of the family travel industry scene is dominated by big names: who not only have the deep pockets for new construction, they also have the dollars to stage press trips and Grand Openings.
So it's good to include a resort that -- while Last and maybe (yes) Least of the bunch in terms of industry stature and inches of press -- clearly intends to be a notable destination for families: Sunset Beach Resort has added a major attraction that kids will love; and it also offers a value price point.
Sunset Beach Resort and Spa is in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and in 2005 opened a new Pirates Paradise water park, with waterslides, squirters, waterfalls, Blackbeard's Lazy River, and a Pirate Ship for ages 2 to 12. Its Kids club, Club Mongoose (also for ages 2 to 12), is beside the water park, as is a Teen Center.
As for "value-priced": rates start at about $280 in high season for 2 persons all-inclusive, and kids under 12 are $45 each per night; off-season (May to December) will probably be much less. (Please check web site for updates.)
