Family Resorts

By Teresa Plowright, About.com Guide to Family Vacations

Family resorts offer easy-to-relax getaways: sports and activities on-site; convenient ways to feed the gang; kids' clubs and teen centers-- much fun with minimal hassle, whether you're at a tropical all-inclusive, or a waterpark resort you can drive to from home.

Resorts by Region

Head to popular spots: Caribbean, Mexico, Northeast US, Florida, Southeast, Southwest, Hawaii, and more.

All Inclusive Resorts

Club Med Punta Cana

Parents love the convenience of one-price-includes all. Kids can sample activities (or not), help themselves to drinks when they please, have fun at the kids clubs. Most families head to AI's in Mexico and the Caribbean, but there are choices within the US as well.

Mexico and the Caribbean are top spots, with their all inclusives resorts (above); but there are other ways and places to do a beach resort getaway, in the southeast US, in Florida... Or go west, to California, or the beautiful Hawaiian islands.

Thumb your nose at nasty winter weather: drive to a place with its own tropical climate, i.e. an indoor water park with slides, giant dumping buckets, wave pool, kiddie play zones, etc. They're bustin' out all over... Wisconsin Dells, Sandusky Ohio, the Poconos, NY State, Kansas, Williamsburg... Water park resorts are fun in summer too, especially if the resort has an outdoor water park.

Special Interest Resorts: Ski Resorts, Golf, Horse-Riding

Some resort vacations are all about enjoying a favorite sport.
