Yellowstone's massive gate was inscribed in 1872: "For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People" - a landmark, for public access to the Great Outdoors. National Parks are a tremendous tradition... and have special features for visiting families.
- Junior Rangers: when kids complete an activity booklet about a Park, they'll be awarded a Junior Ranger patch. (Select a National Parks, and check For Kids.)
- Many Parks also have Park Ranger Programs for kids, about wildlife and ecology.
A third great option for families is offered at one of the world's top National Parks. Yellowstone has an amazing array of wildlife (bison, grizzlies, moose) plus unique "geothermal features": it's literaly in a volcanic caldera, burbling and spurting with mud-holes and geysers. Yellowstone is not only fun, it's an education. So, what better way to see it than with a naturalist?
Each summer, (and in winter too), the Yellowstone Association Institute offers adventures for families with a naturalist/guide. Try animal tracking, painting, hiking... 3-night program has family pricing and includes lodging, activities, and some meals. See Yellowstone for Families.
