The driver stands on the back and controls the sled (which mainly means working the brake, as the dogs are so eager to run.)
Kids, of course, will want to drive the sled, and typically they need to be at least 13 years old. The child has to be big enough to manage the handle bars, and heavy enough to stop the sled; also, mature enough to understand the responsibility. If a child is too young but really wants to drive the sled, one of the Guides might drive beside the child so he/she can learn and have fun without controlling the sled.
