You know how kids love fantasy-type computer games? Well, now they can step right into that kind of fantasy world at a new kind of family attraction called MagiQuest, in Myrtle Beach SC.
MagiQuest is a live-action adventure game...
... and it's played in a 20,000 sq. ft. area packed with special effects that get activated by the player's prize possession: the Wand.
Think: fantasy video game meets laser-tag play-space, sort of; but paint that play-space with fantastical terrains, creatures, and characters. Visit the MagiQuest site to get a sense of the visuals.
Elements of MagiQuest
Some elements of MagiQuest are like fantasy-genre computer or video games. Players pick Quests and Adventures; encounter characters and creatures; accumulate special powers; rise to higher levels where difficulty increases. There are Clans, Magi, Quests, Runes... the kind of vocabulary that fantasy-players love.
Key to the experience is the player's personal "magic wand", whose special technology can trigger special effects (more than 150 of them!) in the environment. The wand -- yours to take home-- stores info, too: players can come back later and resume the game where they left off.
Multiplayer game: just as multiplayer online interaction is the pinnacle of computer and video games, players in MagiQuest can interact with other "Magi" on the Quests and Adventures. This makes a nice opportunity for family play.
Duels: After completing 12 Rune Quests, a player is a Master Magi; but the fun's not done. The player can challenge another Magi at the Duelling Stations.
Market Place: players collect gold while exploring the Kingdom, and can redeem this gold for "trinkets" in the Market Place. Medieval-style costumes, wand belts, and other booty is on sale too.
