Fall Travel Ideas

By Teresa Plowright, About.com

Fall travel can be terrific, with lower prices and fewer crowds; and in many places, weather in early fall is as nice as summer.

Those with kids in school can do weekend getaways; those with preschoolers can have it all, including special events in September for families with tots.

October brings a full month of Halloween fun, everywhere from theme parks to country inns; in November, Thanksgiving weekend packages launch the holiday season. And throughout the fall, Caribbean and Hawaii holidays are at bargain rates.

11. Hawaii: Aloha Festivals

Starting in late August and running through September, Aloha festivals on all the islands tempt visitors to Hawaii for fall vacations. Honolulu has street festivals and a floral parade.

12. Riviera Maya festivities November 1 - "Day of the Dead"

Don't let the name fool you: the Days of the Dead are a lively and colorful Mexican tradition, and -- next to Christmas -- the favorite time of year for children.

This Mexican tradition coincides with our Halloween. Stay at an all-inclusive in the Riviera Maya, and you can watch festivities while enjoying fall promotion rates.

13. Fall Travel - Europe

Good news comes at the end of every summer, for Europhiles: the transatlantic airfare prices drop.

So many things that are fun to do in summer in Europe are fun in September, too. The beaches are still warm and sunny in Greece, the flowers still bloom in Italy. Paris is so lovely that September can be more crowded than summer months.
