Coral Marien Resort - background :
--this resort was formerly known as the "Marien Coral by Hilton".
The Coral Marien resort is in the north of the DR, near Playa Dorado and the busy town of Puerto Plata (which has an airport.) The other three Coral resorts are on the south (Caribbean) coast of the DR.
The resort has 325 roooms in six three-story buildings, including some Junior Suites and Master Suites; buffet and a la carte restaurants; spa, dive center; golf nearby.
Features of the Coral Marien :

- non-motorized watersports include kayaks, paddle boats, boogie boards, Sunfish and Windsurf equipment, beginner's Scuba Diving Lessons in the pool
- motorized watersports -- available for a charge-- include JetSkis, banana boat, parasailing, scuba
- paid outings available to nearby coral reef offshore
- daily activities include beach volleyball, water polo, aerobics, Latin dance classes, mini golf, beach parties, Spanish lessons, tennis lessons
- nightly entertainment includes Caribbean or Folklore shows, variety shows (some with audience participation), Bingo night.
- the town of Puerta Plata is a short distance away
- guests can walk either way on the beach. A 20-minute walk takes you to Playa Dorada plaza: shops, cinema, etc.

Keep in mind:
- excursions include Cascadas Damajaguas: 27 natural waterfalls, about 20 min. from the hotel
- visitors report that beach has seaweed (-- this could be seasonal-- ) but in any case better water is a short walk away. Or take an outing to the town of Sosua -- 20 minutes away-- for a beautiful beach.
