Yet Orvieto has a cathedral that's way outsized for this medieval town. This Duomo was built here, the story goes, because of a miracle that occurred when Pope Urban IV was visiting Orvieto in 1284.
Many in our group considered Orvieto a wonderful surprise, both for its Duomo and for the charming lanes and shops to explore.
An excellent addition to the Rome-Florence-Venice itinerary.
