In New York City, the Christmas spirit gets started with Santa's appearance at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The famous department store is also known for wonderful Christmas window displays.

About's Guide for New York City for Visitors has many photos of these holiday windows:

  • "Miracle on 34th Street" Windows are an annual tradition, in the Macy's windows along 34th Street
  • Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, and Barney's New York are other stores known for fabulous holiday window displays

She also has a handy Christmas Windows Walking Tour Map, showing how to make your way to all the major department stores with window displays.
