Christmas Break
- holiday ideas for families

By Teresa Plowright, About.com

Christmas Break - aka that late-December holiday season couple of weeks without school -- is a peak time for family getaways. Below are some of the most popular options for Christmas Break.

Ski Resort Getaways
Get into winter! At some marquee names ski resorts, and mid-sized choices too.

Tropical Beach Resorts
But of course, more people want to flee winter than cavort in it. Caribbean Beach Resorts are oh-so-popular at Christmas Break; Hawaii Resorts, too.

Mexico All-Inclusives
Cancun, the Riviera Maya, Los Cabos... Families flock to Mexico for Christmas Break, mainly to the all-inclusive resorts that make relaxing so easy, with meals, drinks, snacks, watersports, and kids club on tap.

Orlando for Christmas Break
Universal Orlando has Grinchmas and daily Macy's Holiday Parade; Disney World has Mickey Very Merry Christmas Party, and Parade; Holidays Around The World and Candlelight Processional, in Epcot; Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights, and more. Orlando has other festivities too.

Holiday Season Packages
- at a bunch of places in the US. A Vermont Inn; a Texas resort; a "Festival of Luminarias" package at a Hyatt Regency resort in New Mexico that's on Native American land; a lodge in Yosemite National Park; "Snowland" at Great Wolf Lodges with indoor waterparks...

Christmas in Europe
For most us of, the charm of Europe is that chance to experience a country's rich culture-- and what better time than Christmas, with its special traditions, celebrations, decorations, and seasonal warmth? Sip hot chocolate at a Christmas market, listen to a choir in a midnight service at a medieval cathedral... even the storefronts, all decorated for the season, can be an experience. And a bonus: you can get there with lower airfares and stay in hotels with off-season rates.
