Find a Road Trip Planner

By , About.com Guide

Most people are familiar with handy web sites that provide door-to-door driving directions plus route maps to print out.

However, a number of sites go above and beyond to offer a full-fledged road trip planner, that helps you find sightseeing, lodging, even restaurants.

Rand-McNally Road Trip Planner
The well-known map company Rand-McNally offers a free road trip planner that lets you add stops along your route; you can also look for Things To Do and Places to Stay, in your specified stops. "Things to Do" can include Fun and Games, History and Heritage, Outdoor Adventures, and more. "Places to Stay" has hotel profiles, and hotel feature even displays whether pets are ok! A premium paid service adds more features.*

Rv.com Road Trip Planner
With this road trip planner you can add stops en route, look for restaurants, shopping, lodging, golf, museums, movies.

Fuel Cost Calculator: Not a road trip planner, but very useful: enter your start point, destination, the year and model of your vehicle, and see how much your gas will cost.

-- these brief snapshots are intended to help you find the best road trip planner, but it's the nature of web sites to change over time --
