Riu Ocho Rios: background

Clubhotel Riu Ocho Rios is a new all-inclusive and the largest in the worldwide Riu chain, with 856 rooms. Location is 4 km from the town of Ocho Rios; Ocho Rios is on the north coast of Jamaica, 65 miles from Montego Bay International Airport.

Riu Hotels and Resorts is a Spanish company with over a hundred properties worldwide; Riu has become a growing presence in the Caribbean, with resorts on several islands. The Riu Tropical Bay opened in Jamaica in 2001, and a second Negril property has opened since.

Riu Ocho Rios: features

• 846 rooms and Junior Suites, in 5 or 6-storey buildings.
• two outdoor pools with Jacuzzi
• kids club (probably for ages 4 to 12)
• playground and kids' pool
• seven restaurants, including gourmet a la carte, Italian, Steakhouse, and Japanese; some require reservations, and the Japanese Restaurant is for Deluxe Room guests only
• ping pong, volleyball, introductory scuba lesson in the pool, sailing kayaking, windsurfing; snorkeling at an additional cost
• live music, theme nights

Ocho Rios is near the Dunn's River Waterfalls, which are extremely popular with tourists: busloads are ferried in to literally climb up the waterfall. Makes a great outing.
