Ocean Club Resorts, Turks & Caicos

By Teresa Plowright, About.com

Ocean Club Resorts: background

Ocean Club Resorts are two all-suite properties-- Ocean Club and Ocean Club West-- on Grace Bay Beach, one mile apart, on the island of Providenciales. Stay at one resort, play at both; a complimentary shuttle runs ever half hour; or simply stroll along the beach. Accommodations in low-rise buildings range from studios to 3-bedroom apartments.

The Turks and Caicos island chain is a former British colony, halfway between Florida and Puerto Rico. Non-stop flights are available from major gateways; flying time from Miami is 80 minutes. The island is known for beautiful stretches of white sand beach by crystalline sea: Grace Bay has 12 miles of powdery white sand.

Features for families

  • kids can play in the pools at both resorts
  • three restaurants all have kids' menus
  • family size suites have kitchens with microwaves, dishwashers, ovens/stoves, full-size fridge; washers and dryers too
  • VCR’s, movies, board games and a lending library available at the front desk
  • a grill menu can be served in room
  • complimentary beach toys for kids
Excursions can be arranged for: diving (ages 13 and up), snorkeling, wind-surfing, boat trips on catamarans or sailboats, sunset cruise, fishing trips. Highly-rated Provo Golf Club is a short walk from Ocean Club West. Also: you can go on your own for snorkeling at Smith's Reef at Turtle Cove.

Keep in mind about Ocean Club Resorts:

  • many guests own their own units
  • don't expect a roster of activities as at all-inclusives
  • Turks and Caicos tends to be pricey
  • families can buy groceries at an IGA in town (take a shuttle or taxi)
  • check recent visitors' comments for remarks about nearby construction noise
  • food gets kudos (always check recent comments, though)
