Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort & Casino: background

Hyatt is a worldwide chain that includes the Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency brands. Many properties -- especially those in sunny climes-- welcome families in several ways.

  • kids under 18 usually stay free in parents' room
  • Family Plan rates take 50% off a 2nd room for kids up to 18
  • 16 properties offer "Camp Hyatt" kids programs-- and Hyatt Regency Aruba is one of them
  • "Hyatt Adventure" outings at some properties

Aruba is one of the "Dutch Caribbean" islands, along with Bonaire and Curacao in the western Caribbean, and out of the Hurricane Zone, and is generally known as a safe and friendly island (despite awful headlines in 2005 due to the disappearance of a U.S. teenager.)

Hyatt Regency Aruba: features for families

  • luxury property with 12 acres
  • 8,000-sq.-ft., three-level pool complex with waterfalls, water slide, swim-up bar
  • game room
  • kids under 18 stay free with parents
  • Camp Hyatt for kids, see below
  • family outings such as jeep safaris, snuba (snorkeling with a way to breathe underwater), horseback riding. Check www.adventurehyatt.com.
  • and for those hungry little mouths: Subway, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, Baskin & Robbins, Haagen Daas just steps away

"Camp Watapana" for kids:

  • for ages 3 to 12, morning-afternoon and afternoon-evening sessions
  • 5,000 sq. ft. Dutch Caribbean-style facility with arts and craft center, outdoor playground, Nintendo, and over 100 types of games and toys
  • includes activites that teach about the destination, with activities such as lessons in Papiamento, the island’s native language; nature walks to see resort’s iguanas, parrots, black swans, trips to the butterfly farm and aloe factory
  • sports: kids might learn tennis, sailing, salsa
  • cooking classes
Each counselor works with a maximum of four kids; two kids per counselor for offsite outings.

Keep in mind about Hyatt Regency Aruba:

  • food and drinks are pricey -- one visitor commented on a $10.25 pina colada
  • during busy periods, you may have to get up very early if you want a beach palapa; these are apparently "assigned"
  • you can walk a long stretch of beach, on the sand or a boardwalk
  • it's easy to rent a car and explore the island
  • check out the snorkeling outing on a pirate ship
