The Avila Beach Sea Life Center -- new in April 2010-- is another low-cost family attraction, with touch pools and other fun learning experiences for kids. Avila Beach is a 10-minute drive from San Luis Obispo.
Sight-seers may also want to drive 40 minutes to San Simeon (-- remember those elephant seals--) to take a tour at popular attraction Hearst Castle, a 165-room extravaganza built by publishing industry tycoon William Randolph Hearst.
