Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is on Key Biscayne, a beautiful area just five minutes south of downtown Miami. Key Biscayne was visited in 1513 by Spanish Explorer Ponce de Leon, who thought he'd found the Fountain of Youth when he discovered the island's fresh waters. Today Key Biscayne is home to pricey residences, but the island is not exclusively the playground of the privileged: it has several parks and some inexpensive restaurants.
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park offers visitors a two-mile stretch of beach and sugary white sand. Walk to the historic Cape Florida Lighthouse, climb the 109 steps to the watch room to survey the beach, and Miami and Biscayne Bay; you can also take a lighthouse tour, and eat at the Lighthouse Cafe.)
Visitors like to swim, picnic, enjoy a mile of beach, bike, kayak, and try shoreline fishing from a seawall. Read more about Key Biscayne and about Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.
