Cooper's Beach is the main beach in Southampton village on Long Island; Southampton -- back in 1640-- was the first settlement in New York State.
Cooper's Beach offers a nice stretch of white sand for a stroll, and you can maybe spot some historic mansions in the distance: this is "The Hamptons", code word for moneyed summer playground-- read more about Southampton and the area.
Tip for visitors: non-residents pay $25 per day during the week and $30 on the weekend for parking. Cooper's Beach has lifeguards during summer, and a pavilion where you can get lunch; and a Polar Bear swim in winter.
