Top Beaches 9, 10: Cape Florida State Park; Beachwalker Park, Kiawah Island SC

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is on Key Biscayne, near Miami. Walk to the historic lighthouse, climb the 109 steps to the watch room to survey the beach, and Miami and Biscayne Bay; you can also take a lighthouse tour (and eat at the Lighhouse Cafe.)

Visitors like to swim, picnic, enjoy a mile of beach, bike, kayak, and try shoreline fishing from a seawall. Read more about Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.

Beachwalker Park is on Kiawah Island, a barrier island off the shore of South Carolina, in Chareston County. Besides 11 miles of unspoiled beach (lifeguarded in summer in some areas), visitors can enjoy a boardwalk that weaves through live oaks and other trees. The park has a river view as well.

Kiawah Island is a popular tourist spot, with golf courses, high-end resorts, and vacation rentals. The island -- just 1.5 miles wide at its widest point, and 10 miles long-- has many miles of lagoons and marsh. The Kiawah River connects to the Intracoastal Waterway.
