Baby Gear Rentals

By Teresa Plowright, About.com

Travel With Baby means Travel With Stuff: the stroller, the bottles, the diaper bag, the extra clothes for baby and for parents (who may be spit-up-on, or worse)...

A number of companies have stepped up to the plate to make travel with baby easier: all you need to do is get yourself to your destination city, and they'll bring almost everything you can imagine, right to your hotel.

You'll find an extensive list of companies, organized by state, at The New Parents Guide; some Canada and International locations, too. Baby Equipment Rentals has another state-by-state list. Most of the baby gear rental companies listed are individually owned and pride themselves on the level of service they provide in their local area.

Samples of local-area companies include: Breezy Baby which provides equipment rental in the Washington DC. area; and Santa Barbara Baby Company, which includes some nice touches like a kid-friendly guide to Santa Barbara and signature beach ball.

Another option is Baby's Away, which serves over 50 locations in the US.

All these companies typically provide the Big Gear, i.e. cribs, high chairs, strollers, car seats, etc.

Meanwhile, Babies Travel Lite handles the little stuff: diapers, formula, food & more delivered to travel destinations worldwide. Shop at their site and order what you want; pay a convenience charge and Babies Travel Lite will package and deliver your supplies.

Tips:

  • some upscale hotels will do a lot for families with babies. Some Four Seasons properties, for instance, will provide not just cribs but also strollers and baby toiletries.
  • to locate companies providing service in a certain area, try searching for "baby supplies rental" or "baby supplies travel service" plus the name of the city
