(LifeWire) - This 5-star resort offers family activities, including a kids' camp, in elegant surroundings.

The Half Moon Resort was built in the 1950s by Harvey Firestone Jr. of Firestone Tire and Rubber, and Richard Reynolds of the Reynolds Metal Company, as an exclusive getaway.

Known for its mix of relaxation and luxury, this vast 400-acre property is located in the Montego Bay region, about 10 minutes from the airport, near historic Rose Hall.

Meal plan options range from breakfast-only to the Platinum Plan, which includes all meals, drinks and extra activities.

Half Moon Resort: Features

  • The resort has 398 rooms.* Accommodation ranges from superior rooms to suites to private villas with up to seven bedrooms,  private pool, cook and butler, and use of a golf cart.

  • Anancy Children's Village for children ages 3-12.  Programs includes outdoor activities (wading pool, play area), arts and crafts and creative play. Older children can participate in water sports, tennis clinics and horseback riding.
  • Daytime and evening babysitting is available
Keep in mind about Half Moon Resort:
  • The resort property is very large. Check location of room when making reservation.
  • No shorts allowed at dinner for men and boys: pants are required.
  • Some websites emphasize that the resort has 51 pools, but keep in mind that most of these pools belong to private villas. Three pools are open to all guests.
